Days 21,22 and 23 - Bruges

Our journey to a campsite just outside Bruges was uneventful until we stopped at a supermarket to restock with food. As we set off on the last mile of our journey the amber light for check engine again came on. We were hopeful that overnight it would resolve itself as it did last time however the next morning it was still there. After a conversation with our breakdown cover provider, we set off on a  morning sightseeing  trip, not as originally intended the historic walking tour of Bruges but  to two garages neither of which had capacity to run a diagnostic test but both said just carry on as long it is amber but stop if goes to red.

We were back in time for a nice cycle ride that afternoon from the campsite into Bruges mainly along a canal towpath and our return journey through a forest. We spent a couple of hours wandering around this beautiful city with lovely scenic views everywhere you looked.

I can’t believe I have not been to Bruges before, where every street is filled with chocolate shops, interspersed with ice cream and waffle sellers. Even though we cycled back as fast as we could I don’t think it was enough to counteract the calorific effects of the wonderful Bruges produce.

The next day we cycled again into Bruges centre to take the historic walking tour we had to cancel yesterday, complete with chocolate tasting. What could be a nicer way to spend a Saturday morning? The guide was excellent, and the tour was about 2 miles / 1 hr 45 minutes long. There was something for both of us including the oldest hospital in Europe and a statue of some mathematician.

Lunch finally saw Martin getting the moules and frites he had been waiting for.

Again, the photos don’t do it justice but here are some more.

Next and our last stop is Dunkirk, we can’t believe how fast 4 weeks has passed.
